Kybella is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the profile of the jaw and appearance of fat below the chin (submental fat) also called “double chin.”

Kybella is a non-human and non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into subcutaneous fat, Kybella causes lysis of adipocytes, the destruction of fat cells.

The reduction of the fat under the chin is a gradual process and typically takes several treatment sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Once the aesthetic goal is achieved, no further treatment is expected to maintain the result.
